on women in uniform, peace operations and safe and inclusive environments
RESDAL holds international seminar in Brasilia, Brazil
The Latin America Defence and Security Network (RESDAL), in collaboration
with the Brazilian Network on Peace Operations (REBRAPAZ), the Brazilian Army
Ground Operations Command (COTER/EB) and the Instituto de Altos Estudios
Nacionales de Ecuador (IAEN) are holding the international seminar
"Uniformed Women and Peace Operations: Progress and Challenges in the
Creation of Safe and Inclusive Environments" on 22-23 October 2024 in
Brasilia, Brazil.
This high-level event takes place in the framework of the project "Womenin Peace Operations: Supporting Inclusive Environments through Inter-regional Collaboration and National Engagement" supported by Global
Affairs Canada. The diversity of voices
from the hemispheric south will be a unique feature of the meeting.
Over two days, experts, military personnel and policy makers from Latin
America and the Caribbean (Argentina, Uruguay, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico and
Guatemala); Africa (Liberia, Nigeria and Cameroon); Asia (Bangladesh and
Pakistan) and MENA (Egypt and Jordan) will focus on the critical role of women
in uniform in peace operations worldwide, the progress needed towards gender
inclusion in peace missions and the challenges of ensuring safe and respectful
environments, especially in the prevention of sexual harassment and abuse.
The
participation of the representative of the Canadian Embassy in Brazil, Simon
Cridland, and from the United Nations, the Special Coordinator for Improving
the Response to Sexual Abuse and Exploitation, Christian Saunders, and the
manager of the Elsie Initiative Fund, Deborah Warren-Smith, also stands out
