RESDAL holds international seminar in Brasilia, Brazil
DAY 1
Experts and members of official institutions from Africa, Asia, Latin America and MENA discussed the challenges and lessons learned in ensuring safe, inclusive and respectful environments, as well as the meaningful participation of women in peace operations.
The seminar was officially opened by Simon Cridland, Minister Counsellor of the Canadian Embassy in Brazil; the head of peace operations, Brigadier General Ricardo Luiz da Cunha Rabelo of the Brazilian Army's Ground Operations Command; Eduarda Hamann, coordinator of REBRAPAZ and RESDAL's president, Andrea Chiappini.
the first day of the international seminar featured three main panels:
- Uniformed women and peace operations
- Between Norms and Practice: Advances and Challenges in Legislation to Prevent Sexual Harassment and Abuse in Security Forces
- Troop and Police Contributing Countries: National Standards and Peace Operations
The first panel featured key guests: Christian Saunders, Deborah Warren-Smith and Brigadier General da Cunha Rabelo, who presented and exchanged on the challenges, lessons and progress in the meaningful participation of uniformed women, from the perspective of the United Nations, the Elsie Fund and the Brazilian Ground Operations Command.
