Dossier of the International Seminar “Women in Uniform and Peace
Operations” Now Available
The dossier with key findings
and discussions from the International Seminar "Women in Uniform and
Peace Operations: Advances and Challenges in Creating Safe and Inclusive
Environments", held on October 22 and 23, 2024, in Brasília, is
now available.
The event brought together 30
participants from 11 countries, representing 17 institutions across four regions (Latin America and the Caribbean, North America,
Asia, Africa, and MENA). Attendees included representatives from the United
Nations, Ministries of Defense, Armed Forces, embassies, military justice
institutions, and civil society and academia.
Organized by RESDAL,
REBRAPAZ, the Brazilian Army Land Operations Command (COTER), and IAEN,
with the support of Global Affairs Canada, the seminar fostered an
interregional dialogue on policy advancements, best practices, and ongoing challenges
in promoting the inclusion of women and preventing sexual harassment and abuse
in military institutions and UN peace operations.
The dossier compiles key
insights from various panels, highlighting:
-The need for continuous leadership training on sexual harassment and abuse prevention.
-The alignment
of national policies with international standards.
-The reinforcement
of reporting and investigation mechanisms for cases of sexual abuse
and harassment.
-The creation
of mentorship networks and institutional support systems for women in
military forces and peace operations.
The impact of the seminar was
clear from participants' feedback:
-75% expressed high satisfaction with
the event, emphasizing its effectiveness in fostering meaningful dialogue
and collaboration.
-81%
reported gaining new knowledge and insights, underlining the
seminar’s role as a valuable learning opportunity.
-100%
agreed that interregional exchanges are essential, reinforcing the
importance of collaboration and the sharing of best practices.
